  • Lifespan: Typically lives 5 to 8 years with proper care. [1]
  • Temperament: Very peaceful, active midwater swimmer that does not fin-nip. [1, 2, 3]
    Tank Requirements & Care
  • Minimum Tank Size: 10 to 20 gallons (a 15 to 20-gallon long tank is ideal to give an active school enough horizontal swimming room). [1, 2, 3]
  • Schooling: Must be kept in a group of at least 6 individuals (ideally 10 or more) to reduce stress and display natural shoaling behavior. [1, 2, 3]
  • Water Parameters: Temperature between 72–80°F (22–27°C), a pH range of 5.5–7.5, and soft to moderately hard water. [1, 2]
  • Environment: Thrives best in a well-planted aquarium with subdued lighting, dark substrate, and driftwood, which helps emphasize their bold coloration. [1, 2, 3]
  • Diet: Omnivorous; easily accepts high-quality flakes, micro-pellets, and frozen or live foods like daphnia, brine shrimp, and bloodworms. [1, 2]
  • Tank Mates: Excellent for community tanks alongside other small, peaceful fish like Corydoras catfish, rasboras, gouramis, and other nano species. [1, 2]

    • When shipping live animals, 24 shipping is required for almost all. Shipping may be adjusted by AO due to holidays, weather conditions, or customer confirmation to be available.
