Spinosatibiapalpus sp. “Blue” – Colombian Blue Dwarf Tarantula

Spinosatibiapalpus sp. “Blue,” commonly called the Colombian Blue Dwarf, is a small, striking New World terrestrial tarantula known for its metallic, iridescent blue abdomen. This is currently an undescribed species, so information on its exact natural history remains limited. It is associated with South America and the Colombian hobby locality/trade name.

Adult Size: Approximately 2.5–3 inches (6–7 cm) in leg span, with females generally becoming slightly larger than males.

Personality: Fast, alert, and somewhat skittish, but generally more inclined to retreat than confront a threat. They are primarily nocturnal and may spend daylight hours tucked beneath cork bark or inside a shallow retreat, becoming more visible when hunting after dark. They can kick urticating hairs when threatened, so handling is not recommended.

Care: Provide a well-ventilated terrestrial enclosure with several inches of substrate and a cork-bark hide or similar retreat. Keep the substrate mostly dry to slightly moist while providing a clean water dish at all times and avoiding stagnant, overly wet conditions. A temperature around 75–79°F (24–26°C) works well. Feed appropriately sized crickets, roaches, mealworms, or other feeder insects; spiderlings can be offered very small or pre-killed prey. 

Care Level: Intermediate. Their small adult size makes housing easy, but their speed, skittish temperament, and relatively limited husbandry information make them better suited to keepers with some tarantula experience.
